Color Field
The Color field type allows users to select and store specific colors, typically represented as Hex codes. It provides a visual interface for data entry and can be used to drive dynamic UI elements within your application.
Color Field Properties
Note: Every field in SnapApp shares a set of universal properties, such as Display and Edit settings, that are configured during creation.

Basic Properties
The Basic Properties tab defines the field’s identity and its relationship to the parent object.
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Data Type | Set to Color. This enables the visual color picker UI. |
| Object | The parent object this field belongs to. |
| Label | The user-facing name, such as “Brand Color” or “Category Highlight”. |
| Column Name | Prepopulated from the Label. Convention: 3–5 words separated by hyphens (e.g., primary_brand_color). |
| Description | Internal notes explaining how this color is used in the app logic. |

Data Type Properties
When the Color data type is selected, the following specific option becomes available in the Data Type selector:
- Theme Color Selector:
- Checked: Limits the user’s input strictly to the predefined colors set in your Application Settings. This is the best practice for maintaining strict brand consistency.
- Unchecked: Allows the user to select any color via a free-form color picker or by entering a custom Hex code.

Overview & Use Cases
The Color field is more than a simple data entry point; it is a foundational element for application customization. At SnapApp, we use this field type extensively for System Objects to maintain a cohesive look and feel.
Common implementations include:
- System UI Elements: Controlling Icon Colors and Header Colors globally.
- Dynamic Styling: Referencing color values in custom pages to update styles based on record data.
- Visual Indicators: Using colors to represent statuses, categories, or urgency levels (e.g., a “Project Status” color).

Thank you for following these steps to configure your SnapApp components. Building a well-structured data environment is the first step toward creating a powerful, automated application that scales with your needs.
