Activity Feeds & Feed Tracking
The Activity Feed is the collaborative hub for every record in SnapApp. It turns a standard data entry—like a Project, an Invoice, or a Support Ticket—into a living conversation. Instead of digging through your inbox to find out why a status changed, you can see the entire history and discussion right next to the data.

What is a Feed?
Think of a Feed as a social media timeline dedicated to a single specific item in your app. It is made up of three types of information:
- User Posts: Messages typed by team members to discuss the record. These support @mentions to pull people into the conversation.
- System Updates: Automated “narrative” entries created by SnapApp. When you change a field (like moving a stage from “Lead” to “Qualified”), the system writes a post so everyone knows what happened without you having to type it.
- Media & Files: Photos, documents, and spreadsheets uploaded directly to the conversation for quick reference.
How it Works
While the data for your records is stored in a structured table, the Feed lives in a flexible “Big Object” (NoSQL) environment. This allows the feed to store an unlimited amount of text and media without slowing down your app’s performance.
The “Primary Record” Link
Every feed is tethered to a Primary Record. If you are looking at a “Customer” record for Acme Corp, the feed you see is uniquely locked to that record’s ID. If you delete the record, the feed goes with it; if you rename the customer, the conversation history stays right where it belongs.
Setting Up Feed Tracking
As a configurer, you decide which parts of your app should be “social.”
1. Enable the Feed
By default, objects have feeds disabled. To turn on the conversation:
- Navigate to the Object Builder.
- Toggle Feed Tracking to ON.
- This adds the “Activity” tab to that record type’s layout.
2. Choose What to Track
You don’t want a system post for every tiny typo. You only want to track “Milestone” changes.
- Go to the specific Field settings within your Object.
- Check the box for Track Changes.
- Example: If you track the “Owner” field, the feed will automatically post: “Sarah Jenkins assigned this record to David Miller.”
User Features in the Feed
@Mentions
Users can tag colleagues by typing @ followed by their name.
- The Benefit: This instantly sends an Alert to that user’s notification bell and a link to their email, bringing them directly to the record.
Threaded Replies
To keep things organized, users can reply directly to a specific post. This creates a “thread,” keeping the discussion about a specific file or update grouped together rather than cluttering the main timeline.
Real-Time Updates
Feeds in SnapApp are “Live.” If two people are looking at the same record and one posts a comment, it will pop up on the other person’s screen instantly without them needing to refresh the page.
Governance: Who sees what?
The Feed respects your existing security rules. If a user is not allowed to see a specific “Invoice” record because of their Role, they will never see the conversation or files attached to that invoice. Security is inherited from the Primary Record.
