Default Locale

The Default Locale setting in SnapApp™ determines the regional formatting for your application. This setting ensures that dates, times, currency, and numbers are displayed in a format familiar to your users based on their specific geographic location.


What Locale Controls

Setting the correct locale influences several key visual components of the user interface:

  • Date and Time Formats: Determines if dates appear as MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY.
  • Currency Symbols: Automatically adjusts currency fields to display the correct symbol (e.g., $, €, £) based on regional standards.
  • Numerical Formatting: Defines the use of commas or periods as decimal and thousands separators.
  • Language Defaults: Sets the baseline language for system buttons and standard error messages.

Configuring the Default Locale

Your locale settings are applied globally, so you can manage them from Global Settings.

  1. Navigate to Settings from the User menu.
  2. Select Global Settings in the breadcrumbs.
  3. Scroll to the Date and Time and Language sections.
  4. You can select your preferred Default Language and Default Locale. You can also select the preferred date and time formats.
  5. Save: The changes will be applied across the application immediately.

Locale and User Experience

  • Browser Overrides: By default, SnapApp uses the application’s defined Default Locale, but users can often override this if their individual browser settings are configured for a different region.
  • Data Consistency: While the locale changes how data is displayed, the underlying data in your data source remains unchanged.
  • Format Rules: You can use Format Rules to further customize regional visuals, such as adding specific icons for different country-based records.
