Object Access: The Fundamentals

Explore and manage your objects as described in the following sections:

What is Object Access?

Object access is the highest level of object security consisting of basic sharing rules for all users. These rules dictate who is able to read/write and view object data. The object and sharing rule will be created upon new object creation.

It is best practice to give the least amount of access necessary.

Manage Object Access

To Change Object Access Rules:

  1. Open settings from the User menu.
  2. Select Object Access  from the Access Control dropdown menu.
  3. Search for the object which sharing rule you wish to change.
  4. Select the desired sharing rule from the dropdown. The selection will automatically be saved.
    Share Type Description
Private Only the owner of the object is able to access/view the object data.
Public Read/Write Everyone is able to view and edit object data.
Public Read Only All users are able to view the object data. Only the object owner is capable of editing the object data.
Controlled by Parent This is a special case for use when the object is a template type object. The object will inherit the sharing rules from the parent.
